ASPIRA volunteers for Habitat for Humanity

Paterson Habitat For Humanity is a non-profit organization that creates home-ownership opportunities for families with limited income through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes. On March 22, 2016, HfH provided Aspirantes  with a safety training prior to our volunteer service on improving homeless families’ shelter conditions. They were very happy to have us and congratulated Eastside High School for being the first school in Paterson to volunteer for this cause.

ASPIRA

The ASPIRA Program

The ASPIRA club is a Youth Leadership Development Program, it is the core program of ASPIRA. The program provides leadership training, cultural enrichment activities, and community action projects that teach students how to develop their abilities to become effective leaders of their communities. Through ASPIRA Clubs, youth are challenged by giving them opportunities for self-direction and self-determination so that they can stretch to their full potential. As a result, “Aspirantes” learn to sustain their own motivation and direction helping them to create order, meaning, and direction in of their lives and to contribute their leadership skills to their communities.

ASPIRA’s believes that youth are key to the socio-economic development of their communities. Our aim is to prepare youth to become future leaders by focusing on positive youth development. We work to instill in youth the desire to achieve their goals, further their education, and use their skills and knowledge to make positive and lasting contributions to their communities. Youth that participate in ASPIRA’s programs are called “Aspirantes”. ASPIRA wants all our youth to return to their communities as leaders and fulfill our motto:

"Once an Aspirante, always an Aspirante."

Our Mission...

The ASPIRA Inc. is the only national nonprofit organization devoted to the education and leadership development of Puerto Rican and other Latino youth. ASPIRA takes its name from the Spanish verb aspirar, "aspire." Aspira's mission is to empower the Puerto Rican and Latino community through advocacy and the education and leadership development of its youth.

College Visits

The students have visited five colleges in the past year and had a great time learning about college life. We implement our YLD (Youth Leadership Development) curriculum so our students can become future leaders and encourage them to continue their education. In addition, we help them with community service, cultural awareness, college prep,  etc.
